Dare to go bold
A berry lip is the perfect autumn accessory. Lipstick, stain, gloss – whatever your favourite finish, pair a deep berry colour with dewy skin, a neutral eye and soft sculpting for a striking look fit for a cool, crisp day. Watch our how-to video for a look that’s not afraid to be bold!
Prep the skin
Cleanse your skin to ensure you’re starting with a blank canvas. The Liz Earle Pro-Biotic Cleanser is a good choice for helping to balance the skin and maintaining a healthy barrier.
Stay hydrated
A happy, hydrated face is the key to creating a dewy look. Work in a skincare product with hyaluronic acid, such as the Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Firming Cashmere Cream before using your ring finger to apply an eye cream or gel to firm up the skin. Try the Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Firming Eye Gel Cream if you also suffer from puffiness.
Prime time
Smooth on a pore-diffusing primer, such as the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer, to help create a long-lasting base for the rest of your face products to cling on to.
Lay the foundation
When choosing a foundation, pick a product which works well in layers, like the Estée Lauder Futurist Foundation. This allows you to build up the coverage in areas where you most need it. Using a short-bristled brush, start blending in the centre of your face and work outwards.
Take cover
When rocking a berry tone on the lips, it’s important to knock back any areas of redness or blue in the skin, particularly around the chin or mouth area. Berry tones can emphasise these, so use a concealer to neutralise. The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is a good choice, as it also helps to build your glow.
Sculpt it
Use a contour stick to create a soft sculpted effect on the skin. With a cream product, such as the UOMA Beauty Double Take Sculpt & Strobe Stick, apply colour at the back of the cheekbone, under the jaw and along the top of the forehead and gently buff into the skin until you achieve a level of depth you’re happy with.
Make them blush
Contour isn’t the only product you can use to sculpt! When picking your perfect blush, use a shade that matches the lipstick you’ve gone for – try NARS Blush for a wide variety of undertones. Starting at the apple of your cheeks, blend your blush backwards to give a lifted appearance to the face.
Rise & shine
To intensify your glow, finish off your base with a cream highlighter. Warm the product on the palm of your hand before lightly pressing the pigment into the areas of your face you want to shine, starting with the high points.
Define the eye
A subtle eye look will help add balance to this look. Simply select a neutral shadow shade that’s just a few tones darker than your skin tone and use a soft fluffy brush to buff across the lid. The Huda Beauty Brown Obsessions Palette – Chocolate will add some warmth to the look, too.
Lash it louder
For that wide-eyed look, use eyelash curlers to create volume before going in with a mascara to add some definition. The M.A.C Extended Play Lash Mascara works well here, as the small brush is sure to capture and coat every lash.
Bulk up your brows
A strong, fluffy brow works well with every look. Take a thin pencil, like Benefit’s Precisely, My Brow and draw individual hair strokes to help bulk up any sparse areas. Then, take a brow gel in a matching shade to hold them in place. Try a brow gel with added fibres for a slightly fuller finish, such as Huda Beauty #BOMBBROWS.
The berry best
This look requires a bold lip choice, so ensure your chosen shade is vibrant, with no dull or muddy undertones. Sleek MakeUP’s Say It Loud Satin Lipstick collection has shades to suit every skin tone. Prep your lips with a balm, like the M.A.C Prep + Prime Lip, before applying your lipstick with a brush or your fingertips.
Perfect the pout
Using a lip liner in a matching shade, like the Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner, use small back and forth motions to line the outside of your lips for a sharp, crisp finish. Go in with a final layer of lipstick before finishing your look with a gloss – No7 High Shine Lipgloss will do just the trick – to really amp up the glamour.
And there you have it – go forth and be bold!
