Boots Pharmaceuticals Advanced Blood Pressure Monitor with Atrial Fibrillation Alert
The Advanced Blood Pressure Monitor with Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB) Alert is one of the most innovative monitors on the market as it's able to accurately detect a leading cause of stroke.
Approximately 20% of all strokes are caused by AFIB and around a million people in the UK suffer with the condition. Once detected, treatment can reduce the risk of stroke by 67% in those over 65 years.
What is Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB)?
AFIB is the most common form of irregular heartbeat, and a leading cause of stroke. It occurs when rapid disorganised electrical signals are present in the heart's two upper chambers, called the atria, causing them to contract quickly and irregularly (this is called fibrillation).
You can live with AFIB, but it can lead to other rhythm problems such as chronic fatigue, heart failure, or stroke.
Although there can be symptoms associated with AFIB, such as palpitations, many people have no symptoms and a doctor may not be able to detect it on a regular scheduled visit.
*from 65 years of age.
