This time of year can be challenging for skin but, with the right products, it doesn’t have to be
Party season is one of the most enjoyable times of the year, but as happy as socialising late into the night and overindulging in delicious food makes us, it can sometimes wreak havoc on our skin. And skin problems like blemishes and dullness are a big letdown when everything else – from our hair and our nails to our outfit – is set to stun for the umpteenth time that week. Still, it’s nothing that some suitable skin care products can’t help with. And better skin is also a better base for make-up. So, here’s what can help if your skin sends out an SOS this party season.
Cleansers
Cleansing is always the first step in any decent skincare routine, but when you’ve been wearing lots of makeup and dancing (read: sweating), it becomes even more essential. In fact, you might even want to do a double cleanse to not only get rid of the night’s grime, but also to penetrate your pores further and help with any skin concerns you have.
Overnight Masks
When it comes to helping skin that’s a bit partied out, sometimes it’s best just to sleep on it – wearing an overnight mask, that is. That way you’ll have even more time for the ingredients to seep in and will wake up with better skin than you went to bed in.
Exfoliators
If you want to free yourself of dead skin cells (they block pores and make your complexion look dull, so it might be a good idea), exfoliators containing alpha hydroxy acids like lactic acid are an excellent idea.
Clay detox masks
Oily skin? Blocked pores? You need a clay detox mask! Don’t leave it on for too long, though as they can be drying!
Hyaluronic acid based serums
Hyaluronic acid is the holy grail when it comes to tackling skin dehydration, which can show up as fine lines and dullness. It can be found in a variety of skincare products from cleansers to moisturising creams, but our favourite are hyaluronic acid serums.
Rich hydrating moisturisers
If your skin is dry, a rich hydrating moisturiser is in order to seal moisture into your skin.

Lip Balm
The fact that party season falls in winter is a slight annoyance: you’re more likely to have chapped lips to contend with! But they can easily be fixed with a lip balm. It’s also a great idea to hydrate your lips with a lip balm as part of your makeup routine – just don’t forget to blot it with a tissue if you’re going for a matte lipstick!
Eye care
Nothing on your face will reveal you’ve had a late night quite like your eyes. Cooling eye treatments can work wonders to put puffiness aside.
Instant boosters
While there’s no substitute for having a consistent skincare routine that works for your skin type (especially mid-party season), sometimes you just want a bit of a boost to brighten and rebalance things, which is where these treatments come in very useful!
Spot treatment
Ah, spots. Not what you need when you’re trying to have a good time. But help is always here in the form of spot treatments.
