Vitamin D is a fat-soluble compound essential for the body's wellbeing. Another important function of vitamin D is to regulate calcium and phosphate metabolism and to participate in the process of cell division - it helps in the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus and in maintaining normal blood calcium levels.

Vitamin D is most commonly divided into two compounds: ergocalciferol - or vitamin D2 - and cholecalciferol - or vitamin D3, which is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D. Its main source is exposure to sunlight - which is why it is commonly referred to as the 'sunshine vitamin'. It is thought that up to 50% of the population may be deficient in it. One capsule contains up to 4,000 IU of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which corresponds to the recommended daily allowance (2000% RWS).
