The Hygiene Bank

"We're driven by the belief that everyone deserves to feel clean. Access to hygiene basics is not a luxury or a privilege, it's a basic human right"

Boots & The Hygiene Bank

There are approximately 4.2 million adults living in hygiene poverty in the UK. Hygiene poverty is when individuals are unable to afford the everyday essentials that most of us take for granted such as shampoo, deodorant, and laundry detergent, creating a negative impact on people's day-to-day lives. Boots is The Hygiene Bank's founding partner and official retail partner, with donation points in over 600 stores. Since joining forces in 2019, we have been working together to raise awareness of hygiene poverty and help close the hygiene poverty gap.

You donate = we donate

For every kilogram of product donated in a Boots store, we donate one full-sized product to The Hygiene Bank. Since the start of our partnership, we've donated over 1.5 million products to those living in hygiene poverty, with the charity directly supporting more than 1,200 community organisations and projects across the UK.

How to donate

this Christmas

Share the magic of Christmas with someone experiencing hygiene poverty

Christmas is a special time of year, but for many, it also brings additional financial pressures. People may face tough decisions, having to choose between buying gifts for their loved ones, cooking Christmas dinner, paying the electricity bill or simply staying clean.

To mark our 175th anniversary and help share the magic of Christmas, we are donating 175,000 hygiene essentials to The Hygiene Bank, including a contribution from our supplier partner Procter & Gamble, to help those in communities that need it the most. Show your support by donating your unused and in date toiletries from home or purchased in store by depositing them in one of our hygiene bank donation boxes. You can find your nearest donation point here.

How Boots and The Hygiene Bank are helping

Hygiene poverty can significantly impact children's health and confidence, which are crucial for their success at school.

In September 2024, we launched the Brush with Boots campaign in partnership with Colgate to help children return to school with healthy smiles. As part of this initiative, we donated 175,000 toothbrushes and toothpastes to The Hygiene Bank, which distributed them to schools and projects supporting children across the UK. You can access a range of resources to support your children's oral health on the Boots Health Hub.

Additionally, we have collaborated with The Hygiene Bank to create educational resources for parents and teachers. These resources aim to help young people understand the importance of hygiene and how they can support those living in hygiene poverty within their communities.
