Four leading make-up artists share their top tips & go-to products for dewy, glowing skin
In search of an all-year-round glow? Us too. According to the Boots 2023 beauty trends report, we’re swapping heavy contouring and extreme bronzing for glossy, fresh-faced, luminous skin, and it’s not surprising really. Google searches for ‘dewy skin’ were up 24.8% compared to last year, as a radiant, lit-from-within glow becomes synonymous with a healthy, hydrated complexion.
As we head into the new season, it’s the perfect time to review your make-up kit and make those all-important skin glow swaps to achieve a more radiant complexion for the warmer weather ahead. We’re talking lightweight, breathable formulas to replace those heavier, rich textures, as well as balms instead of powders for a dewy skin-like finish.
Looking to add one thing to your make-up bag to achieve just that? We’ve got you. We ask four leading make-up artists to share the one glowy skin swap that they’re making for spring/summer. From the value-for-money highlighting stick that one artist swears by to the bargain cream blush another adores, these expert-approved products are guaranteed to deliver good glow for a range of skin types.
The cream blush
Mira Parmar, make-up artist & hair stylist
Try: Max Factor Miracle Pure Infused Cream Blush
• Size: 15g
• Available in four shades
• Vegan-friendly
• Creamy and non-sticky
“A new season is coming, which means it’s time to upgrade your make-up bag. Swap out a few of your winter favourites for spring/summer essentials and your skin will love you for it. When it comes to blush, I’ll be putting my go-to powder aside and turning to a beautiful, lightweight cream formula instead.
“Max Factor’s Miracle Pure Infused Cream Blush is my go-to – it’s amazing. It’s packed with pigment, the colours are brilliant for all skin tones, and it’s great on a budget. I also love a multi-use product, and it can perk up both cheeks and lips for a healthy glow this spring.”
The liquid illuminator
Joy Adenuga, pro make-up artist & groomer
Try: NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator
• Size: 25g
• Available in four shades
• Vegan-friendly
• Cruelty-free
“Come spring/summer, I’ll be switching from a powder highlighter to a liquid one. I find that powders can make an overall make-up finish a tad matte and flat, which is why I prefer liquid formulas that deliver a natural-looking glow and a more radiant finish.
“I love NYX’s Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator, because it’s very easy to use and doesn’t separate when applied on skin. Apply a few dots to the high points of your face, such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and cupid's bow, before blending in with fingertips or a fluffy synthetic brush to add an all-over glow.”
The cheek and lip tint
Amy Rose Macdonald, bridal make-up artist
Try: No7 Lip & Cheek Tint
• Size: 10ml
• Available in three shades
“No7’s Lip & Cheek Tint is the perfect product for creating a soft, glowing natural make-up look and ‘your skin but better’ results. A multi-purpose hero, it’s really easy to apply – I recommend using your fingertips to press it onto lips and cheeks.
“A must-have item in anyone’s make-up bag – this is my go-to for a natural, glowy look. Top tip: warm the product up on the back of your hand prior to application so it melts even more effortlessly into your skin.”
The glow-giving stick
Min Sandhu, make-up artist
Try: Collection Gorgeous Glow Stick
• Size: 4.5g
• Available in three shades
• Vegan-friendly
• Blendable and buildable
“Like Fenty Beauty’s Match Stix, Collection’s Gorgeous Glow Sticks are available in three steps – contour, blush and highlighter. However, they’re not sold as a trio, which I love, as you can pick the ones that are right for you.
“I often skip the contouring step to focus on cleaner, healthy, minimalist dewy skin. I like to apply the blush and highlight shades straight onto the skin and blend in with my fingers, but you can use a brush if that’s your preference. The sticks are buildable and creamy, they blend well and are a total steal.”
