It's time to shake-up your make-up
With the warmer weather incoming (fingers crossed!) and our social calendars slowly filling up, now’s the perfect time to update your make-up. We sat down with two experts from L’Oréal – Val Garland, Global Makeup Artist, and Katie Hodge, National Education Manager – for a chat about how to refresh your make-up bag for summer, as well as reloading it with the products you need to create the summer trends you'll be seeing on social media (and in real life, too).
Reflect
Being cooped up in our homes for the past year or so (the less we say about it, the better) meant our make-up routines for work and going out-out changed completely. Aside from a single swipe of mascara for our morning meetings, our make-up bags remained untouched. With restrictions ending, “now’s the time to refresh and relearn new trends and tips,” says Katie. And the shift in lifestyle means we’ll be embracing our best bits instead of covering up the things we want to hide – cue an updated make-up bag.
Refresh
Shopping your current stash is a great place to start. Pour out the products from your make-up bag and decide what needs renewing, upgrading or throwing away. Remember to check the date on your make-up as it will tell you how long you can use the product after opening. Cream-based products, like foundations and concealers, will have a shorter shelf-life than others. Psst! Don’t forget to recycle your empty make-up using Maybelline’s recycling scheme. Take your past-it palettes, unloved liners and finished foundations to an in-store recycling station – you’ll find one in Boots stores up and down the country. “It’s always good to speak to a make-up artist to see what the new tips or products are on the market, so you can see what you need to renew,” says Katie. The good news is that trends often come back around (hello again, double denim), so hang onto those favourite party-starting palettes!

Reinvigorate
