Discover super-charged skincare that won’t break the bank
Whether you consider yourself a skin-tellectual or a total newbie, Boots Ingredients is the latest no-frills skincare collection you need on your bathroom shelf.
Don’t believe us? We asked a number of Boots employees, with totally different skin concerns, to try products from the new range. Read what they had to say here.
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I suffer with sensitive skin around my eyes and find a lot of products typically react badly, causing allergy flare-ups. As I’m getting older, I’m also finding a lot more ‘smile lines’ are developing in that area too.”
What did you think of the product?
“Finding the right product that doesn’t react badly to my sensitive skin is usually a challenge, but this Retinol Eye Cream is an absolute DREAM! The packaging that it comes in is really pretty and sits nicely on my dressing table – you’d never believe it was only £7! A little goes a long way, as I only have to apply a few drops around the eyes to get the full effect. The formula is super lightweight, and I’ve noticed a real difference as my eyes now look a lot brighter and more awake than before I started using it. This was one of the first retinol products I’ve ever tried (apart from the other two retinol products from the Boots Ingredients range) and I’m hooked! I’m nearly 30, and wrinkles are slowly becoming more defined on my face as I age, but I’ve certainly seen a reduction in the appearance of my ‘smile lines’ around my eyes since using this product. This is a must-buy if you’re looking for something affordable with effective results!”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I have really sensitive skin and suffer with eczema quite a lot. I’m nearly 30 and have noticed wrinkles are starting to make an appearance.”
What did you think of the product?
“I tried this Retinol Serum and was so impressed! It didn’t take that many applications before I started noticing a reduction in the fine lines on my face. My skin feels a lot firmer and healthier than before I was using it, meaning I’m a lot more confident in showing my bare face on video calls now. For such an affordable price, I’ll definitely be buying again!”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I have quite dry skin on my face and have started noticing more wrinkles appearing as I get older (sadly!).”
What did you think of the product?
“Meet my skin’s new best friend! I’m a huge fan of this Retinol Night Moisturiser as it has done wonders for my face. I apply this moisturiser around my face and neck, both morning and night, and have not only noticed a change myself – my boyfriend has noticed (and commented) too! My skin feels really hydrated and smooth after using this, and the fine lines on my face have started to improve, too. The packaging is really nice, and the price is so good (only £7!), making it an easy long-term addition to my skincare regime.”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I have combination skin and I find it’s often more oily than anything else on my T-zone. I also get hormonal acne on my chin which comes and goes, but I’ve struggled to find a routine that keeps my skin consistent.”
What did you think of the product?
“I was very pleased with the product once I got it, it sat beautifully on my skincare table (shelfie goals!). The modern packaging clearly states how to use the product and the benefits I could expect to see on my skin. The formula is light and clear and goes perfectly onto freshly cleaned skin. Unlike most skincare products to help oily skin, this one was not drying to the skin at all. I woke up the following day with fresh skin and I found my foundation sat perfectly throughout the day with no oily residue or patchiness. This is definitely going to be a staple in my skincare routine moving forward – especially as we come to summer and my oily skin comes out in full force.”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I would say my skin sits within the normal-combination category, I get the odd hormonal spot here and there, but it’s generally well behaved. On a day-to-day basis I might get a slightly oily T-zone (but nothing major) and I tend to just go with the flow and embrace the glow. I’d say I have some concern around texture which I always look to skincare products to combat.”
What did you think of the product?
“I love the cute pink cardboard box the product came in, and props to Boots for producing environmentally-friendly packaging. I wish the product felt more luxe (the pump isn’t amazing) but I appreciate that we wouldn’t get the amazing price point with anything fancier. The product itself though? Honestly, so, SO impressed. My skin looks radiant, almost like somebody has switched a light on inside. It’s brighter and any dark spots have been visibly reduced. As for the texture, the serum has really improved the unevenness of my skin’s surface, it’s smoother and now without many of the tiny bumps I disliked so much before. With this product I feel more confident going make-up free – and that’s all I could ask for really. I’ll definitely be picking up another when this bottle runs out, it’s a must-have!”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I’d say my skin is normal-combination (depending on how much chocolate I eat or water I drink). I’m quite lucky that I don’t get breakouts, but as I’m in my mid 30s wrinkles and signs of age are more of a concern for me.”
What did you think of the product?
“If skin-tellectual was in the dictionary then my face would probably be next to it – I love, love, love taking care of my skin, and I’ve started adding retinol to my night time routine to help smooth those upcoming wrinkles, which has often resulted in a few unexpected spots on my face (totally normal when using retinol by the way). Since swapping my boujee brand for the Boots Ingredients Bakuchiol Serum, I’m actually seeing better results and no breakouts. Bakuchiol is a natural alternative to retinol, and it feels soothing on my skin and leaves it soft to the touch. For only £7 I’ll be welcoming this little babe to my skincare family for sure.”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I have combination skin. I have a normal/dry face with an oily T-zone. My family suffer from bad eye bags so I try to look after my under-eyes as much as possible.”
What did you think of the product?
“I thought the packaging was really on trend. It’s simplistic and to the point and clearly highlights the key ingredient. The texture of this product feels light but full of moisture. It absorbs into the skin quickly and makes my under-eyes feel moisturised and soft, and I think I could start to say bye-bye to those eye bags if I keep using this regularly.”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I have eczema on my face and get quite a lot of dry skin, which I usually use an exfoliator for, as well as thick moisturisers.”
What did you think of the product?
“I tried the Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser and loved it. It was really moisturising for my eczema-prone skin, which I didn't expect from a product with 'acid' in the title. The packaging was really minimal and looked really pretty alongside my other skincare. The formula was quite thin, and provided a great base for make-up in the mornings. The product absorbed into my skin really quickly and didn't feel greasy at all, which was a nice change from some of the thicker moisturisers I use. After a week of using it, my skin was much more hydrated and seemed brighter, with a nice glow to it. My skin was really smooth and my foundation went on really well, even without a primer.”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I have combination skin – my T-zone is normally quite oily, but I suffer with dry red patches which seem to be near my nose and towards my chin. I have tried several different products to help combat this but they haven’t worked.”
What did you think of the product?
“I absolutely love the packaging. The pink box looks so good on my bathroom shelf and looks more expensive than it is. I love that the product is also vegan. The pump is so easy to use and two pumps is the perfect amount for full skin coverage. The formula and texture is good, a thin serum that doesn’t leave a sticky feeling on your hands. It absorbs into the skin really quickly, and I layered my moisturiser on top for extra hydration. It wasn’t scented at all, which for me is a bonus. I have been using this daily morning and night for the past week and I genuinely do think I can see a difference. I had several red dry patches and these have disappeared – my skin is a lot clearer and more radiant. I will definitely continue to use this and add it as a permanent fixture to my skincare routine. Also, compared to other hyaluronic acids on the market, this is the perfect price point.”
What type of skin would you say you have?
“I'm prone to breakouts at times (cry!), and suffered with acne in the past so I tend to seek out products which are gentle and light on the skin. Normally, I'll use a cleanser, tonic, serum and moisturiser which I repeat every morning and night.”
What did you think of the product?
“I like my skincare, and I LOVE this product. JUST WOW, this works like a dream for my skin. From the very first use, my skin felt brighter, smoother and fresher. It’s super-gentle to your skin, which for someone that suffers with irritable skin is amazing. It dries nice and fast, but leaves your skin feeling so fresh. I’ve often found other acids to be quite aggressive on the skin, leaving it a little sore – but not this! I really feel like this has made my skin look healthier and more replenished. The packaging is sleek, and identifies exactly what it does on the bottle… simple and effective, what more could you want!”
